Rating :The Toyota Etios Liva looks dated as compared to its comeptitors
The Indian market is FUNNY! On one end you have some products that look great on the brochure and have even been successful in the global market, but when they come to India, they simply bite dust! The poor old Fiat Grande Punto is one such example. On the other hand, you have some products like the Wasteilo - which is a complete disgrace to the Zen brand - but still manages to sell in healthy numbers for Maruti Suzuki. Therefore, before bringing their first small car to the Indian market, the thinking people at Toyota decided to invest time and money in an extensive market research. They wanted to bring out a product that was tailor-made for the specific needs of the Indians.
So if you think about it, you have - in a way - been responsible for this Toyota product. YOU have defined this product - You have designed this product - in fact You are responsible for each and every aspect of this product. Ladies and gentleman, presenting to you - your very own - Etios Liva!
Design
One glance at the Etios Liva and you know that this car is built to a cost. The front fascia of the Etios Liva is similar to its sedan sibling. Adding a hint of distinction and sportiness though are the skirts on the bumpers. The trapezoidal headlights and the smiley grille try very hard to fall in line with Toyota's current design language, but the Liva still doesn't look as elegant as the Corolla.
The tailgate on the other hand has no familial connection with any of the other Toyota car. The triangular taillights are distinctive nevertheless. The tailgate of the Liva is quite flat and therefore makes it easier for the driver to back the car up in cramped parking spaces.
The side profile of the Liva though is what I like the most. Thanks to the long bonnet, side skirts, flat tailgate and the lengthy wheelbase, the Etios Liva looks like a hot hatch from the yesteryear. Plonk in a set of sporty alloy wheels and you’ll have a good looker at least when from viewed from the side profile.
Look at the Liva's exterior from any other angle though, and you'll understand why I called the Indian market funny! After making some good-looking cars like the Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai i10 so successful in our country, the Indian market designed something like Etios Liva!
