Tata Motors unveiled the new generation SUV, Tata Safari Storme at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The company also showcased its alternate fuel technology capability by displaying four concepts, the Tata Nano CNG, the Tata Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid car, the Tata Starbus Fuel Cell (Hydrogen) and the Tata Magic Iris CNG.
The new generation 4WD Tata Safari Storme features a host of technologies and new exteriors and interiors. In the front there is a new grille, new projector headlamps, new chrome-tipped twin exhausts, new tailgate and new aerodynamic spoilers. The new Safari Storm is powered by a 2.2-litre 16-valve common rail (DiCOR) engine that produces 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Electronic shift-on-the-fly allows for shifting from 2WD to 4WD even on the move.
Tata Motors also unveiled the new concept called Tata Pixel, which is based on the Tata Nano at the 2012 Auto Expo. The diamond-shaped doors of the Pixel open in the northward direction to allow to entry and exit for the passengers. The new four-seater city car concept features ‘Zero Turn’ drive that allows easy maneuverability and parking. The futuristic Tata Pixel is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine and comes loaded with high tech features such as optimized aerodynamic drag, low rolling-resistance tires, stop-start technology and intelligent battery charging.
Tata Motors displays also include, in passenger vehicles, a Tata Nano concept, the Tata Indica Vista Concept S2, the Tata Manza Nova concept, the Tata Aria – AT concept, the Tata Sumo Gold and the Tata Xenon concept. Other commercial vehicles displayed are the Tata Prima 7548.S – Concept, the Tata Prima 3138.K AT, the Tata Venture Ambulance, the Tata Ace Refresh and the Tata Super Ace (Left Hand Drive). The company also showcased its new LCV and ICV range and the Tata LPT 3723 – India’s first 5-axle rigid truck at the 2012 Auto Expo.
