OnCars India brought you the exclusive news last month that Nissan would unveil the premium version of their popular people carrier, the NV200, at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi – and Nissan did just that, and more.

The NV200 was presented with a more premium finish at the Delhi Expo in the form of the Evalia. The display vehicle had a posh, metallic paint on the exteriors, while the interiors were made up of materials that you find inside the top-end Micra and Sunny. The Evalia has a seven-seater setup (six passengers + driver) – but unlike the Toyota Innova with which it will compete, the Evalia has additional luggage space even with the seven seats upright. The last row has a fair amount of space behind it and underneath – enough to shove a couple of full-sized suitcases. The legroom for the third row looked quite decent too.

Tata Motors unveiled the new concept called Tata Pixel, which is based on the Tata Nano at the 2012 Auto Expo. The diamond-shaped doors of the Pixel open in the northward direction to allow entry and exit for the passengers. The new four-seater city car concept features ‘Zero Turn’ drive that allows easy maneuverability and parking. The futuristic Tata Pixel is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine and comes loaded with high tech features such as optimized aerodynamic drag, low rolling-resistance tires, stop-start technology and intelligent battery charging.

Along with the Tata Pixel, Tata Motors displayed a wide variety of passenger and commercial vehicles at Pragati Maidan, such as the Tata Nano CNG, the Tata Nano concept that featured disc brakes, the new generation Tata Safari Storme, the Tata Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid car, the Tata Starbus Fuel Cell (Hydrogen) and the Tata Magic Iris CNG.

Hero MotoCorp launched the all-new Hero Maestro scooter at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. By the looks of it, the new Maestro looks more masculine and sportier than the Hero Pleasure. It will be powered by a 109cc petrol engine that produces 8.2PS of power at 7500rpm. It also features the ASFS technology and Advanced  Microprocessor Ignition that is found on the Hero Pleasure. The new scooter also features a combined braking system which called ‘Integrated Braking System’ and a digital-analogue combo meter with a ‘Service due’ indicator.

The new Ignitor will be powered by a 125cc engine that will produce 11PS of power at 8800rpm. The engine will be fed through a CV carb for optimum power delivery and fuel economy. It will also feature tubeless tyres. Hero MotoCorp also unveiled the new 110cc motorcycle, Hero Passion XPro and the new scooter, Hero Maestro at the 2010 Auto Expo. The company did not reveal the prices of the new models at the Auto Expo but the new Ignitor and the Hero Passion XPro are expected to hit the market soon.

The new model is powered by a 110cc engine that produces 8.7PS of power. It also offers a new ignition system, termed ‘APDV’, a viscous paper filter element, tubeless tyres and a maintenance-free battery. A front disc brake is an option, but the electric start is standard. The instrument console is a combination digital-electric affair.

The new Passion should offer good economy and a little more punch for the price considering the features and more power on offer. The price hasn’t been announced at the unveiling, but company officials have stated that it will be revealed soon. The Hero Passsion XPro will hit the Indian market later this year.

Also on display at Tata’s stall at Pragati Maidan is the Tata Nano concept, the Tata Pixel concept, the Tata Indica Vista Concept S2, the Tata Manza Nova concept, the Tata Aria – AT concept, the Tata Sumo Gold and the Tata Xenon concept. Other commercial vehicles displayed are the Tata Prima 7548.S – Concept, the Tata Prima 3138.K AT, the Tata Venture Ambulance, the Tata Ace Refresh and the Tata Super Ace (Left Hand Drive). The company also showcased its new LCV and ICV range and the Tata LPT 3723 – India’s first 5-axle rigid truck at the 2012 Auto Expo.

The new generation 4WD Tata Safari Storme features a host of technologies and new exteriors and interiors. In the front there is a new grille, new projector headlamps, new chrome-tipped twin exhausts, new tailgate and new aerodynamic spoilers. The new Safari Storm is powered by a 2.2-litre 16-valve common rail (DiCOR) engine that produces 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Electronic shift-on-the-fly allows for shifting from 2WD to 4WD even on the move.

Announcing the expansion of complete knock down (CKD) production of Harley-Davidson India at the 2012 Auto Expo Prakash said, “The first time enthusiasts will be (now be) able to lay their hands on a 1,600cc bike for under Rs 10 lakh”. With about 1,000 Harleys already on Indian roads, the company is expecting greater demand for the iconic bike in India and would be opening three more showrooms at Kolkota, Kochi and Jaipur.

The company commenced its India CKD assembly operation in January last year and has been assembling three motorcycles — Harley-Davidson Superflow, Harley-Davidson Iron 883 and Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight. With the introduction of two more motorcycles in its CKD line-up, the company now assembles five motor bikes in the country, out of its total line up of 15 bikes being offered.

The TVS stall at the 11th Auto Expo focussed on company’s mission to produce environment friendly vehicles that will assist in reducing the C02 levels substantially. A wide range of green engine technology were on display, out of which the most significant was the new indigenously developed ‘TVS Automatic Transmission.’ This new technology employs an Automatic Transmission in place of the conventional Continuously Variably Transmission Technology (CVT) and will enhance fuel efficiency as much as 20 per cent whencompared to CVT technology. TVS Motor intends to apply this new technology on a slew of products that are in the pipeline.

Other products on display include the TVS Wego in a new trendy metallic finish along with Scooty Pep+ in and the latest all-black TVS Scooty Streak. The sporty Apache RTR series: 160cc, 180 cc and ABS; TVS StaR City with exciting refurbished graphics; TVS Sport; TVS Tormax, TVS Radeon, and the TVS Qube were also on display at the stall of TVS Motor Company at Pragati Maidan.

This year at the 2012 Auto Expo TVS Moto decided to go green and focus on new green technologies. The most significant technology on display was the new automatic transmission that the company has developed in-house. The transmission is a continous variable transmission or CVT and is said to enhance fuel efficiency by 20 per cent. Apart from the new technology, the TVS stall displayed the TVS Sport, TVS Tormax, TVS Radeon and TVS Qube, TVS Scooty Streak ad TVS Wego.
