Toyota has released an official sketch of the Hybrid-R concept, ahead of its public debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on Toyota’s popular small car, the Yaris, the Hybrid-R makes uses of a similar technology used in Toyota Racing's hybrid race car in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The hybrid power-train combines a 1.6-litre GRE (Global Race Engine) with not one, but two electric motors to pump out a total output of more than 400PS of power. While the engine drives the front wheels, the electric motors send power to the rear, making the Hybrid-R an all-wheel drive vehicle. A dual mode control allows the car's performance to be tailored to suit either road or racetrack.
