Hyundai India has been rather quiet when it comes to creating a buzz in the premium end of the Indian car market. Despite the arrival of the new Sonata and the Elantra, the Korean carmaker looked like it was forced to play second fiddle to its European and Japanese rivals.
In its defense, Hyundai eventually managed decent premium sales with the earlier generation Santa Fe. And with the latest-generation model, the company hopes to replicate the strong performance.
The latest-generation Santa Fe was first unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show. When compared to the earlier generation model, the new Santa Fe looks far more aggressive as it incorporates the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy seen in modern-day Hyundai cars. Under the hood, the new model gets a revised 2.2-litre diesel engine producing around 200 PS of power and 431 Nm of torque as compared to the earlier model’s output of 197 PS and 420 Nm.
With its design inspired by the ‘strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of storm’, the new Santa Fe looks far more dynamic than the earlier model. Although the striking looking front-end is visually pleasing, the back-end looks a bit tamed. Nevertheless, Hyundai India is sure to find a lot of buyers for this impressive looking SUV.
