After globally unveiling the next-generation Jeep Compass at the recent Sao Paulo Motor Show, the Fiat Chrysler group has now revealed the details of the India spec model of the same. According to an official statement released by the automaker, the 2017 Jeep Compass will make its debut in India sometime during the middle of next year and will be available in three different trims. It will be manufactured locally at the FCA’s Ranjangaon facility which will be one of the four global manufacturing Bases for the 2017 Jeep Compass.
Globally, the 2017 Jeep Compass will be made available with a choice of three petrol and two diesel engines. However, when the same makes its debut in India, it will be offered with with just one petrol and diesel derivative. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The SUV will come equipped with Jeep Active Drive SelecTerrain 4x4 system which provides an enhanced four-wheel drive performance, both on and off the road. Compass features a disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU), in order to provide 4x4 models with enhanced fuel economy. Jeep Active Drive SelecTerrain 4x4 system instantly engages when 4x4 traction is needed.
The all-new 2017 Jeep Compass, in India will get FCA’s “small wide architecture,” a fully independent suspension with Frequency Selective Damping in front-and-rear-strut system, and electric power steering combined to deliver superior on-road driving dynamics. The upper body structure and frame are engineered as a single unit for a stiff and more mass-efficient structure, and it is designed and built with an extensive use of high-strength steel and liberal use of structural adhesives. More than 65 percent high-strength steel is used for maximizing vehicle dynamics and crash performance while optimizing weight efficiency. The exterior of the 2017 Jeep Compass features a traditional clamshell hood with a double break line and center bulge. An attractive roofline and muscular fenders provides a dominating profile to the vehicle. The roof is painted in Gloss Black, providing the SUV with a sporty touch. The 2017 Jeep Compass will get a premium and up-market cabin. The same will be loaded up to the brim with creature comforts and features. The center stack houses a touchscreen display, a feature that will be market-specific. The center console neatly integrates the functional features of the Jeep Compass, including gear-shift selection, Selec-Terrain controls, engine stop-start (ESS) controls, climate and volume control knobs, and easily accessible media charging and connectivity ports within the cubby bin. The driver’s cockpit features a 3.5- or 7-inch LED driver information display (DID) instrument cluster. The available full-color 7-inch DID – the largest in the segment. Ensuring the safety of its occupants, the 2017 Jeep Compass will come equipped with 70 different safety features on board.
When launched, we expect the prices of the Jeep Compass to be slotted somewhere around the price bracket of INR 18 lakh to INR 23 lakh.
