Back in June 2013, we had carried a report suggesting that General Motors India could issue a recall for its Chevrolet Tavera over emission and performance issue and the diesel variants of the Sail sedan and Sail U-VA hatchback due to quality issues.
While, 1.14 lakh units of the Chevrolet Tavera BSIII and BSIV variants were indeed recalled in the month of July 2013, we didn't hear anything about the Sail siblings, except that the production of all the three models were suspended until the respective issues were sorted out.
Now however, General Motors have voluntarily recalled 4,000 units of its Sail sedan and Sail U-VA hatchback, citing a 'potential engine issue, which is not safety related'. Furthermore, the company also maintains that the aforementioned recall is in no way related to the previous Chevrolet Tavera recall. The company is currently in the process of notifying customers individually on how and when to bring in their vehicles for inspection. The affected vehicles will be repaired free of cost at company's 278 service centers across the country.
General Motors India has also announced that the company has re-started the production and sales of the diesel variants of Chevrolet Sail siblings, which were suspended on June 3, 2013.
