We informed you earlier that the iconic brand, Jeep is planning to introduce a compact SUV in the country with an aim to target this lucrative segment which is dominated by Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza. With an aim to tap the segment, the automaker will be looking to roll out the sub-compact SUV with a price tag around INR 10 lakh. This is Maruti Vitara Brezza Challenger will be pitted against Ford EcoSport along with Nissan Teranno and Renault Duster.
Jeep recently unveiled new Jeep Compass SUV at the LA Auto Show 2016, wherein the Mike Manley, Head – Jeep mentioned that Indian market is most crucial market for the company. He also mentioned that the company is currently exploring for the partnership opportunities with Tata Motors. Further stating, Mike Manley mentioned that the new Jeep sub-compact SUV will find its place ‘above the EcoSport’ but the same will be ‘very close’ to the Ford vehicle.
As the upcoming sub-compact SUV will be the smallest offering from the automaker, it is believed to be powered by engine options. According to the market reports, it is speculated that Jeep is currently emphasizing on talks with Tata Motors for sharing powertrains, transmissions as well as platforms in order to keep the costs low.
Mike Manley mentioned in a statement that, “Our relationship with Tata Motors is good, I would be very open to discussions with Tata about opportunities where collectively we could win.” Further adding to it, “Engines for sure, transmission for sure, various components for platforms for sure, they (Tata) have a significant industrial footprint. If there are other opportunities, I will certainly look at that.”
Internally codenamed as Jeep 526, the new sub-compact Jeep SUV is anticipated to share the design cues with Jeep Renegade as it will be equipped with seven slat signature grille with round headlights. The new sub-compact SUV from Jeep will be a global offering with India as its export hub for the international markets.
