After Delhi, Chandigarh is the next city to have high-security registration plates required on all new vehicles. All new vehicles getting registered in Chandigarh after August 1 will require to have the new registration plates installed. For vehicles that have already been registered, the deadline is July 31, 2013, around two years from now. According to the rules, the plates have to be affixed to the front as well as rear of the vehicle. Three- and four-wheelers will have to paste a self-destructive sticker to the windshield of the vehicle. This sticker will contain the engine and chassis number of the vehicle and will self-destruct if tampered with.
