If you think the Grand i10 is the only all-new model Hyundai is looking to add to its lineup in the near future, think again. If a new report is to be believed, it looks like Hyundai will also launch a new small sedan based on the Grand i10 next year.
The carmaker is reportedly working on this new model which could go on sale during in the first half of 2014. The report also suggests that Hyundai could bring back the ‘Accent’ nameplate with the launch of the forthcoming model. As a reminder, Hyundai India recently discontinued the Accent, fourteen years after it first hit production.
In a bid to keep costs low, the sedan and the Grand i10 will remain identical up to the B-pillar but past it, the two will be quite different with new rear doors and a boot section. Also, both the hatchback and the sedan will share the same wheelbase as the former. However, given that the Grand i10 already benefits from an extended wheelbase of the regular i10, space and comfort in the back seat should be plentiful.
Engine wise, the sedan will get the same set of engine options as the Grand i10. Which means the familiar 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine and the all-new 1.1-litre VGT ‘U2’ diesel engine will be on offer.
