When the news first broke earlier during the year that Maruti Suzuki could launch the WagonR Stingray in India, it seemed very farfetched. However, the car has just been caught on camera during an official photoshoot, hinting that the launch is imminent.
On sale in the Japanese market since 2007, the WagonR Stingray is a more upmarket offering with modern styling and more features compared to the standard WagonR. With its sporty looks delivering an aggressive stance, the WagonR Stingray seems much more appealing than the car that we have here.
While the Japanese-spec WagonR Stingray comes powered by a tiny albeit modern 660cc petrol engine, Maruti will continue with the 1-litre, 3 cylinder K-Series petrol engine that powers the standard WagonR sold in India. The same engine also powers the A-Star and the Alto K10.
When launched, the WagonR Stingray will be offered with more features compared to the standard model. Expect the car to carry a premium of around Rs 30,000 more than the standard WagonR.
