With the roll-out of the locally assembled GL-Class from its production facility in Chakan near Pune, Mercedes Benz India has managed to become the only market in the world to locally produce the GL, outside Mercedes’ SUV plant in Tuscaloosa, USA.
Called the GL 350 CDI, the new locally assembled model is now on sale for Rs 72.58 lakh, ex-showroom Pune. Mercedes also confirms that the initial fully imported lot of the GL-Class launched in May 2013, is already sold out, hinting at the fact that the full-size luxury SUV segment is a fast growing segment in the premium end of the Indian car market.
Powering the GL 350 CDI is a 3-litre V6 diesel engine producing 260PS of power and 620Nm of torque. Coupled with 7G-TRONIC Plus automatic gearbox, the GL promises impressive levels of performance with 0-100kmph coming up in 7.9 seconds, with the top speed at 220 kmph.
