For those who are not too keen on the Renault Duster’s old-school design, there will soon be an alternative now that Nissan India has officially revealed the Terrano. Based on the Duster, the Terrano offers a striking new design and a luxurious interior. While Nissan has released no details on the prices or the mechanical bits, the carmaker has made it official that bookings for this new compact SUV will begin from September 1, 2013.
As a part of Nissan’s aggressive new strategy to launch 10 models by 2016, the Terrano, besides the Datsun Go small car, plays a mighty important role. The company believes that there’s a huge potential for SUVs and that the SUV segment will grow by nearly 30 per cent by 2016.
The 4th generation Terrano, unveiled earlier today, is the first SUV by Nissan India to be produced locally. The SUV will be positioned above the Duster and will attract a premium of at least Rs 40,000 for the top-spec diesel model.
To be made available in 6 colors, the Terrano will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan’s production facility in Oragadam, Chennai where the Duster is also built. Nissan has announced that bookings for the Terrano will begin from September 1, 2013 and delivery process will commence before the festive season. When launched, it will be interesting to see how the more expensive Terrano fares given that the Duster is already facing some stiff competition with the arrival of the much cheaper Ford EcoSport.
