When launched early next year, the new Toyota Verso will be the first ever Toyota to use BMW power. The MPV, in fact, will be powered by a BMW-sourced 1.6-litre diesel engine, as a part of the agreement between the two brands made in December 2011.
The Verso 1.6 D-4D variant will make use of a BMW-sourced 1.6-litre producing 110PS of power and 270Nm of torque. The same engine also powers BMW’s own 1-Series hatchback. Production of the Verso 1.6 D-4D will begin in January 2014 at Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Turkey.
The addition of the BMW-sourced 1.6-litre engine to the Verso’s range early in 2014 will increase the power-train options to four including the 2-litre diesel, 1.6-litre petrol and 1.8-litre petrol.
