India needs no introduction when it comes to dangerous road conditions. The traffic congestion is getting on an all time high and the casualties from road accidents are also on a high with more than 1.46 lakh lives being lost in road accidents in the year 2015. This is why SIAM, India’s apex organisation representing auto manufacturers has in collaboration with Volkswagen India and MORTH (Ministry of road transport and highways) celebrated National Road Safety week.
The company initiated a safety walk with the support pouring in from across all of its dealerships networks and to endorse safe driving on the Indian roads. Statistically more two wheeler riders died as compared to car drivers. But the ones who faced the brunt the most were the pedestrians. Maximum road related deaths occurred in UP, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Whereas Delhi also recorded 2,199 deaths from road related accidents.
This is a great initiative keeping in mind the prevalent situation where road safety has taken a back seat and will go a long way in preaching others to join the momentum as well. Volkswagen recently also tied up with the Government to sell its cars through the Police canteens leading to increasing sales as well.
