Honda India has already confirmed that it is working on a compact multi-purpose vehicle that will be based on the Brio platform. The launch of vehicles like the Quanto, the Ertiga and the Evalia has given rise to demand for low-cost, compact MPVs that sit under the Innova-dominated segment and therefore Honda would like to become one of the contenders too!
The Brio-based MPV will run on an even longer wheelbase than what underpins the Amaze sedan and will use the 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes the sedan so popular. The MPV will get a petrol option too - in the form of the sprightly 1.2-litre engine that puts out 90 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. The styling of the facia could be similar to that of the Amaze and the rest of the design could remain conservative - unlike the radical styling of the Brio.
We believe that Honda would opt for a three-row / seven-seater configuration for the MPV and the dimensions of the MPV would be similar to those of the Ertiga - for anything smaller would be as good as a Jazz. We expect the Brio-based MPV to make its debut by early 2014.
