With the increasing demand from the sub-compact SUV and SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki India seems to be aggressive with its product strategy for the domestic car market. After the successful launch of Vitara Brezza sub-4-metre SUV, country’s leading auto player is now gearing up to introduce Ignis mini crossover during the festive season. Also, the company is looking to introduce new generation Jimny mini SUV in the Indian market that will be produced and exported overseas.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Exterior
Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be based on Suzuki's new generation platform which also underpins other models such as Baleno hatchback and Ignis mini crossover. The mini SUV is anticipated to manufactured at company’s Gujarat plant, and will be exported to selective international markets such as in South East Asia, Europe and Brazil. Maruti Suzuki Gypsy which is based on 3rd generation Suzuki Jimny with extended wheelbase. However, the vehicle was much popular among the armed forces rather than consumers. The exterior profile of the mini SUV is expected to sport unconventional grille design with company insignia embedded in between alongside conventional head lights, wider air dam, fog lamps and grey coloured skid plates. While, the side profile gets plastic cladding across the profile with body coloured bumpers, roof rails and 10-spoke wheels. The rear end of the mini SUV gets conventional look with typical tail light console, side blinkers and rear reflectors, and a spare wheel mounted on the tail gate.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Interior
The new Maruti Jimny may make a way for the comfort and convenience with better quality interiors and higher comfort level. Moreover, the new Jimny is expected to arrive with four doors and extended wheelbase serving the needs of typical Indian consumers. However, exact interior details are yet to be revealed but the mini SUV might sport sleek and elegantly designed dashboard, 3-spoke steering wheel and gizmos equipped in the center console.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Engine Specifications
Under the hood, the mini SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine that is capable of producing 110bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Moreover, the company might also introduce the SUV with a more powerful 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine on the later stage. The transmission duties are expected to be carried out by a five-speed manual or a new automatic gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Launch Date, Price and Competition
As far as the price point is concerned, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is anticipated to fall in the price range of INR 5 lakh – INR 7 lakh. Likely to arrive by the end of 2016 or early 2017, the mini SUV will go head-on-head with Mahindra Thar in the same segment.
